Dauphin Geocaching COntest
Permalink Closed

Gord from Morris and a few other people have told me they heard on CBC radio yesterday a news story about a new geocaching contest being put on by the town of Dauphin Tourism as a way to attract people to visit Dauphin. Any body heard of this or found any details. Gord e-mailed Marilyn Macki of CBC who said it's to be posted on Dauphin's home page but it's noit there yet.

I think the idea is that they are going to hide geocaches at a number of historic sites or sites of interest in and around Dauphin and you must find them all to win a prize.

Ok, I e-mailed Dauphin Tourism and they are scrambling to get the info up on thier website:
http://www.dauphin.ca

Looks for contest details there sometime within the next 2 weeks.

With my luck it will be right at seedingtime on the farm and I won't be able to get away.

I hope lots of people do get a chance to make the trip to hunt up there!

Good luck!

Just curious, did anything ever come of this contest? We didn't hear anything about it.

I have to be up in Dauphin working with MTS at the end of April.  I'll try and remember to stop in and ask around, if I'm not busy placing a cache or two myself.

I never heard anything more from the people from Duaphin who contacted me. Not sure what the Parkland GPS contest status is or was. MHz

The Turdle-femme works for a rural organization and they received the “Parkland GPS Treasure Hunt” mailer last May. The Treasure Hunt seemed to fizzle last year, but as Dauphin Tourism received a $4,000 grant to put on the event, I imagine there’s still some motivation to produce something.

It seems they’ve done a lot of the ground work already, so I’m crossing my fingers and hoping for a cache-expedition to Dauphin this summer!

Were there any dates for when this was going to be on?

What parks are they talking about? Since they are just North of Riding Mountain, you would think it would be there. However, Parks Canada does not ALLOW geocaching in "their" precious parks. So, it has to be elsewhere...

Anyone play this one? Just curious how it is working out. Noticed the site up earlier in the summer.

If this goes off, I think You can put it in the bank that we will be there. I even think I can round up a team of Norman Cachers to addend as well.

4 hour drive isn't so bad. Besides they serve a great wobbly pop in Perogy Town.

Oh ya, bet I can generate some business at Cdn Tire too....Deprived Northerners...lol

Found this tonight, although I suppose it won't come as too big a surprise to some of you all.
