Gord from Morris and a few other people have told me they heard on CBC radio yesterday a news story about a new geocaching contest being put on by the town of Dauphin Tourism as a way to attract people to visit Dauphin. Any body heard of this or found any details. Gord e-mailed Marilyn Macki of CBC who said it's to be posted on Dauphin's home page but it's noit there yet.
I think the idea is that they are going to hide geocaches at a number of historic sites or sites of interest in and around Dauphin and you must find them all to win a prize.
I have to be up in Dauphin working with MTS at the end of April. I'll try and remember to stop in and ask around, if I'm not busy placing a cache or two myself.
The Turdle-femme works for a rural organization and they received the “Parkland GPS Treasure Hunt” mailer last May. The Treasure Hunt seemed to fizzle last year, but as Dauphin Tourism received a $4,000 grant to put on the event, I imagine there’s still some motivation to produce something.
It seems they’ve done a lot of the ground work already, so I’m crossing my fingers and hoping for a cache-expedition to Dauphin this summer!
Were there any dates for when this was going to be on?
What parks are they talking about? Since they are just North of Riding Mountain, you would think it would be there. However, Parks Canada does not ALLOW geocaching in "their" precious parks. So, it has to be elsewhere...
