Bison tubes in Winnipeg - any easy place to buy?
Permalink Closed

Technically, this has to do with my travelbug, but it applies more universally to everyone as a general caching question.

With the bison tubes (not the nano ones... the regular, 2" long ones), is there any easy place to get them in Winnipeg?  I ordered several online from gpscentral.ca this morning (on the 1-3 day shipping), but knowing the postal system... it's debatable whether they'll arrive by Friday regardless.

The reason I'm wanting them sooner (or perhaps either just closer or cheaper... or both :P) is thus:

I'm putting out several TB's, one this Friday.  Originally, I was thinking of having a laminated card with the "goal" and "guidelines" on it, but knowing from experience seeing other TB's, those tend to peel, or get wet inside, or just get mangled in general.  Hence... my second thought was to find a hard plastic cover, sorta like the think you'd put a picture in, and put the goal-paper inside of THAT, and maybe glue it closed so no moisture gets in.  However... I eventually came to the conclusion that this would be annoyingly sized, and poor-quality in general, due to the need to "seal" it manually.  And even that seal would debatably hold.

Hence... I came to the revelation that I could put a laminated card, or just about any size I want (provided it's capable of rolling up into the bison tube) rolled up in a bison tube.  I'd still keep it laminated for added protection, and to keep it from falling apart as constantly rolled/unrolled paper does.

I also came up with both a way to avoid confusion, as well as (hopefully) avoid people from stealing the bison tube.  When it arrives (or I can find one sooner), I'm giong to scratch/etch into the side of it the geocaching.com tracking name (TB12AB, whatever it is) and what it is... so something like:

TB1234
Goal - please read
Kabuthunk

Something like that (unless someone can think of something else to put under the TB number).

So yeah... any ideas where I can buy bison tubes in Winnipeg (this has quite possibly been the longest way to ask "where can I buy bison tubes" ever :P)

Hi! My sister and I are just back from caching in Grand Forks and Fargo. We were amazed at the number of micros that were in Bison tubes. We tried several stores in the area and had no success in finding them.We did find them online. However, today I received a Lee Valley Xmas catalogue in the mail .They have an item that looks very much like a Bison tube.It is on the back of the catalogue...order # 99K38.70 and is a magnetic compass that comes in a " screwtop, waterproof aluminum cylinder."The container looks like a copper colored version of the tubes we saw in the States. It retails for $4.95. Hope this helps!
