Geogame - GeoPics
Permalink Closed

The game I am proposing is very similar to ShutterSpot offered through GPSGames.org. This is where you try to figure out the location of a picture that has been taken somewhere and visit it and log that visit.

The difference here is that the Geopics can be pictures of unremarkable, somewhat pedestrian locations that are just significant enough to be recognizable to another area cacher.  They can then visit the site, take their own picture of the same area including their GPS and post the picture and coordinates where they think the person stood.

Here are the only guidelines:

1. The location must be within the Winnipeg and the surrounding area.

2. No tresspassing, or dangerous locations.

3. Don't make it too terribly difficult, or too easy!

When you post the picture, also post the Degrees of the location so that people can narrow it down a bit (N 49 _ _._ _ _ /W 97 _ _._ _ _)

Every week that the location remains unfound, the picture owner should publish one more number from the coordinates on the forum. This will help keep the game going.

Whoever correctly identifies the location has a week to post their own location and clue.

That's about it.  This game is not my idea.  I swiped it from TimeandSpace on the Edmonton Geocaching forum.  I have been following it for a few months and though it looked like fun.

If you are not sure how to post photos, let me know.  I can help you with the hosting as well if you like.

I'll be posting the first location shortly....

Hint: It is NOT the eye of Sauron.

OK, I think makes sense now that I reread it a couple of times. I go to the site and take the same picture from the same angle tomorrow and post the coordinates back here. Is that correct ?

You post the coords of the spot where you think I took the picture from. You can also post a picture as well. If you are correct, then you get to post the next mystery picture. Perhaps I should have mentioned that the only prize you win here is 'bragging rights'.

Way to go Lizardo. This is a great idea for a caching game.

I like it! The game sounds like a lot of fun. I'll be watching for Winnipegk5's next picture.

Good work team Turdle. Scooping K5 was a tricky bit of gameplay. Now it's your turn to post a pic.

I had sort of envisioned the posting of a supplemental pic.  Perhaps even with the GPS.  But what do others think? I don't want the game to fizzle cuz it's too hard.

Well, I'm not sure. If this doesn't count as a winner, consider it a big hint.

Oh, I think grnbrg needs to go stand where I stood and take a snap. I’ll meet you there, say 19:00? I can assist by directing: a metre to the left or a metre to the right

/Spoiler
I’ll even buy you a Catfish
Spoiler/

I think you should have to post your picture with you or your gps in it. I could have got the first one in 30 seconds with google maps. Just my 2 cents.

Heh. Well, I'll be there for 7:00, whether or not someone else posts a pic first.

Have fun.  MHz and I will be on our way to Fargo for some geocaching!

Come one, come all! There’s even free WiFi there, so it could be a race to upload the pic

Hey I wanna go too!  Geez, I'm tired of being sick!  Hey, Turdle, take it easy on grnbrg, we don't want the next Geopic to be of the bottom of the barstool at the King's Head! or here !

Have one for me guys. I'm off to find a cache in my sock drawer.  My wife has been busy hiding them around the house so I don't lose my edge.  I think I have a good chance at ftf on this one.

I can attest that Mr grnbrg was within a metre of the GeoPic spot - and the Catfish were jumping!

Maestro-Lizardo, can a person play more than once, or does a player get just one turn?

Play all you want!  But it is currently grnbrgs turn to post a photo. Unless he's sleepy and would rather delegate the responsibility to someone else.

By the way, I'm feeling a bit better.  Watch for my tracks on the trail soon.

Since this looks like it could be a lot of fun, do we want to petition Master Instigator for a "Geopics" forum?

grnbrg.

PS: I'll have a new pic up today, sometime....

Started a new thread with the new pic, so we don't have to reload all the pix each time.

PS: Post # 1000! Wewp!
