I am heading out East, Halifax, this summer and I want to get some detailed maps for the GPS. I want the most acurate/ up to date map possible. Which of the Garmin maps has the best detail? POIs? etc. I hear rumors of a version 8 for North America, does anyone know when the release date is?

Also, are there any caches that are a must visit?

I don't know about v8, but if you only need/want maps for Canada, MetroGuide Canada has the most detail.

I just an email from Garmin confirming that The MetroGuide Canada 4.0 was last updated in 2003. They said it was the best for navigating Canada. The North America City Navigator Version 8 will be released soon.
